AniManGaki is a community-based Animation, Comics, and Games (ACG) event that helds at Sunway Pyramid Convention Center every year. Second in line before Comic Fiesta, AniManGaki has grown rapidly over the years; being one of the best ACG events in Malaysia from a small humble college event.
To make things interesting, every year we change themes and the event concept bend towards that subject. In 2015, we went for "Sports" and fans have the chance to celebrate it with us with sports-related anime, games and comic!
As my 5th year running as the Head of Design, I led a small team of creatives comprise of artists, graphic designers & a videographer. Together, we worked towards a common goal as volunteers to bring the best out of the event we can offer to public.
As the team lead, I had the common tasks laid out and delegate them to team members with appropriate deadlines. I oversee communications between team members to avoid any internal miscommunication as our work are highly collaborative. We used Facebook group as the main medium of communication and Trello to track our tasks. We had our regular meetings with other departments to update our progress as the event draws near.
I picked several itineraries under graphic design that needs to be done which are deemed challenging and requires consistency. Among the itineraries that I was responsible for are logo, theme, ticketing design (with ticket holder), event booklet, bunting, pass tags, jersey and some social media announcements image. I also volunteered to enhance our typical word format sponsorship proposal document to a fancy PDF document to gain more traction on attracting sponsors to our event.
From the previous years, the website never had a common template to stick to. So in 2015, I had decided on a new web design that could last few years ahead with less maintenance. Simply said : A website that only changes theme and content only every year.
The website is coded from scratch based on Bootstrap 3.0.0 framework with PHP. A lot of logic was done behind the scenes so that updating a page will require less effort as everything is already automated. For the first time, Facebook graph API has also been implemented for further customization when sharing in Facebook. Not to forget Google Analytics was also included for user behaviour study and marketing purposes.
